Round 9 vs Onkaparinga

Brighton vs Harlequins
Quiz Night & Past Players Day

With no games on the weekend, Brighton was able to organise games for our Under 12, 14 and 16 sides against Melbourne Harlequins, who were touring to Adelaide.

The Brighton sides all played well against tough opposition, and will learn a lot from the experience for the rest of the season. The highlight of the morning was the comeback by the Under 14s after going behind early, to then lead at halftime and only lose on the very last play of the game.

We hope to organise future fixtures against Melbourne Harlequins, who really enjoyed their trip, and the hospitality shown by Brighton Rugby Club.

This weekend is the last game of the first half of the season, playing Onkaparinga down at Wilf Taylor Reserve. This is traditionally a tough away game, and should result in some thrilling rugby!

The Under 12s and Under 14s will be keen to continue their recent form, and catch up to Onkas in the standings. Our Under 16s also have a chance to move up the ladder with a win, and the Under 18s will be keen for revenge after a narrow loss earlier this season.

In the Seniors, injuries and illness have forced some changes as well as a forfeit by Third Grade Black, but all sides will be trying to stay near the top of the ladder. A win for Thirds Gold, Reserve Grade and Premier Grade will set Brighton up for the top of the table clashes coming up in the next two rounds, against Old Collegians and Burnside. Up at Barossa, the Brighton/Barossa Women will be taking on Southern Suburbs, hoping to keep up their enthusiastic performances so far this season.

This Saturday night is the Club Quiz night, raising funds for Junior Tours, and next week is the Brighton past players day, celebrating the anniversaries of premierships in
1975, 1985, 1995 and 2005. Any past players or members are welcome on June 21st to help celebrate and catch up with old mates!

Past Players day
Round 10 – June 21

Brighton is celebrating the club’s past achievements again this year, and former players will be catching up on June 21st for the game against Old Collegians!

All past players, support personnel and committee members are invited to attend.
In 2025 we will be remembering the following achievements through the decades:

1975

  • Division 1 Grand Final

win over OLD COLLEGIANS!

1985

  • The infamous

GRAND SLAM year! All four senior divisions were successful in the Grand Final, as well as the Under 14s. In addition to this, Danny Offenburg was selected for the Australian Schoolboys touring team to the UK, and Brighton toured to Japan under the guise of Mitsubishi Australia!

1995

  • Division 1, 3 and 6 all won their Grand Finals, along with the Under 19s!

2005

  • Division 1 won the Grand Final

against OLD COLLEGIANS, along with wins for
the Under 16s and 18s!

The meet and greet for past members will kick off at 1pm. The club will supply some catering for the event, and of course the bar will be open. If you are able to attend please contact Dennis Holyoak on or let us know at secretary@brightonrugbysa.net.au

Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls, Canteen & Bar

The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.
In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.
If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.

Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
