Round 7 Results

On Saturday Brighton visited Port Adelaide for Round 7, after hosting Old Collegians on Friday night for Under 16 and Under 18 games.

Brighton Under 16s got the weekend started playing old Collegians under lights at Brighton on Friday. Old Collegians are currently undefeated, but Brighton gave a good account of themselves and earned a bonus point in a 20-33 loss. This keeps them in touch with the top four, with a chance to overtake Onkas in Round 9.

The Under 18s also came up against an undefeated Old Colls, and also fought hard, eventually losing 26-36. The U18 side will next play Woodville and attempt to jump into 3rd spot under lights on Friday.

Saturday surprised all of us by not bringing rain and high winds, making the morning much better for watching the younger grades play. The GiR and Under 8 kids enjoyed themselves as always, followed by the Under 10s enjoying the wide open spaces in a real end-to-end battle. These games were followed by the Under 12s.

The Brighton Under 12s made it three in a row with another big victory, running in nine tries to win 53-12, and move within sight of the top four. Next week will be a vital game to move clear of one of their close competitors.

With a bye for the Under 14s, the next game was the latest edition of the Brighton showdown… Third grade Gold vs Black. This time the Black side were sitting inside the top four and ready to give Gold a real run for their money. Both sides were keen to keep their positions on the ladder, and the first half was fairly even. Eventually Gold managed to gain the upper hand, but a very competitive Black team kept the score to 44-24 in favour of Gold.

The Brighton/Barossa Women’s team were forced to start their match against Burnside with 13 players, with no bench available. Unfortunately several injuries, including one requiring hospital treatment, reduced Brighton/Barossa to 10 players. Unable to match numbers the team had to play out the match down 3 players, resulting in a tough loss to Burnside. Despite this the Women’s team showed fantastic effort in defence, and finished out the match with great enthusiasm. The team can be very proud of their efforts for each other, and the spirit in which they play each week.

The day at the Port finished up with Brighton Reserve grade taking on Port Adelaide. Brighton assisted Port in fielding a full team so that the match could proceed as 15-a-side, and the early part of the game was very evenly matched. However the class of the Brighton Reserve grade shone through eventually, and Brighton eventually won 54-12. Brighton remain clear top of the ladder, but have their toughest test so far ahead of them in Round 9.

How to report a concern

Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls, Canteen & Bar!

The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.

In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.

If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.

Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
