Round 6 Results vs Southern Suburbs

Round six had Brighton back at home for only the second time in 2026, and hoping not to get rained on all day! Southern Suburbs looked like providing tough opposition across the grades as we get closer to the half-way point of the season.

Our Get into Rugby and Under 8 teams kicked things off at 8.40am, with a big crowd of spectators cheering on the teams. Numbers in both squads are excellent, and the players provided their usual great show of running rugby!

Over on the other half of the pitch, the Under 10s had a great battle with Souths, and Brighton fielded two entire teams that took turns playing. We hope to be able to play two separate Under 10 matches when possible, so keep an eye out for any adjustments to match times in future.

Brighton Under 12s needed a win to catch up with Souths on the ladder, but unfortunately fell just short. After Brighton led for long periods, the result hung in the balance until Souths added a late score to finally come out on top 33-26. In the other Under 12 game, the Brighton/Uni side had a tough game against Old Colls, and were unable to get the result they wanted, losing 0-62.

Brighton Under 14s got exactly the result they needed, dominating Souths to win 36-5 and lock in equal-second place on the ladder… great preparation for next week’s game against Burnside to decide top spot!

The Brighton Under 16s came close, but ended up going down 22-31 to Souths. However the team now has two games in a row against Barossa at Brighton, giving the team a great chance to build some confidence and push themselves back into the mix for a finals spot on the ladder.

Third Grade Black had a very tough game against Burnside, and were not quite able to get their noses in front, losing 17-28. This still leaves Blacks in a good position on the ladder, with a bye week to rest up for their coming games.

Back at Brighton, the Women’s team were facing an undefeated South’s team, but once again with great numbers. For the second game in a row, Brighton fielded a full fifteen plus a bench, in a great sign for the second half of the season. Despite eventually going down 0-58, the game was again played in a great spirit with Brighton holding their heads up until the end.

Brighton Thirds Gold were clinical in defeating Souths 79-0, dominating possession and scoring most of their points in the outside backs. The result has Golds well clear on top of the ladder, with a big test coming next week as they come up against second-place Burnside, the only team to win against them last season.

Brighton Reserves had a potentially tough game ahead of them, but never looked like losing, coming out on top by 41-13. Next week against Burnside gives Brighton the chance to get clear of the rest of the ladder and look ahead to playing old Colls at Brighton for top spot in a few weeks time.

The day finished with another game under lights, Brighton Premier grade playing top side Souths. The game was tight right from the start, and it took nearly 20 minutes for the first try, when Souths took the lead. Brighton replied quickly to lead 7-5, and then added another.  Souths rose to the challenge and scored again to level the game 12-12, but there was just enough time for Brighton to add another try in the last few moments of the first half, leading 19-12 at the break.

The second half was all Brighton, with most of the play in the opposition half. Brighton scored four more tries, and finished up comfortable winners 45-12. Brighton are now clear on top of the ladder.

Next Saturday is Round 7, and Brighton are playing Burnside away at Woodville. On Sunday Brighton is also hosting the Crippled Crows, so if any past players are keen for a game please come down! Thank you to our supporters, and we hope to see you again at Woodville next weekend!

See you next week for Round 7!
