Round 5 Results
It was a long drive to Barossa for Saturday’s matches, but our teams made it worthwhile with some very good wins against the Rams.
As usual the Get into Rugby teams didn’t seem to mind the early start (although I’m not sure about the parents!) and got a sunny Saturday off to a good start. They were followed by the Under 8 and Under 10 teams for a fun start to the day.
Brighton U12s recorded their first win for the season, and will now be looking to make it two in a row next week with the chance to jump above their opponents Adelaide Uni on the ladder. Our Under 14s continued their good form with another big win, and settled themselves into the top three on the ladder.
The Brighton Under 16s also won, and the new squad is settling down well together. Next up the Brighton Under 18s recorded a dominant win, and will look forward to their next chance to play the top two sides again.
The Brighton/Barossa Women’s team had another home game, after a great effort last week at Brighton. The Women also had almost a full squad, with 22 players available on Saturday. This week the opposition was Burnside, and they proved to be another tough test. Our Women fought hard all game, and despite the final score had good periods showing real improvement in their game. The Club also sends best wishes to the Burnside player injured late in the game who unfortunately had to leave in an ambulance.
Brighton Third grade Gold had a big battle for supremacy against the current top side, and managed to win narrowly. However the close score and no bonus point prevented Brighton from finishing the day on top of the ladder. The Brighton Black side were defeated by Onkaparinga down at the Port, but put in a great effort against a suspiciously good Onkas Third grade to maintain their spot in the top four.
Brighton Reserve grade once again dominated their opposition, and once again finished the game as winners and undefeated leaders of Reserve grade. After a long day, this finally brought us around to another night game in clear, cold conditions for our Premier grade side. Barossa kept in touch during the early stages, but by early in the second half it was clear that Brighton were in control, eventually winning 31 – 8.
Congratulations this week to Tyson Diamond, who played his 50th senior game!

Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls
The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.
In particular we need volunteers to act as Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.
If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.
Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
