Round 4 Results
Saturday was a long day of rugby, but there was more fine weather and lots of great results to help when we hosted Southern Suburbs.
From 8:00am our growing Get into Rugby squad (U4-7) played and had a great time in two separate games for the Walla and Try-time groups. At the same time our U8s were fighting out their usual high scoring epic! This was followed by the U10s enjoying the extra room playing full field.
Brighton U12s played hard, but were unable to overcome a very good Southern Suburbs side. This was followed by a big win for the U14s, who are inside the top four and looking forward to playing the sides above them.
The U16 side are building a competitive squad and pushed hard on Saturday. Next week will be a chance to start climbing the ladder as the sides above Brighton all play each other. Brighton U18s had a good win, and are also inside the top four this week.
The crowd enjoyed welcoming the Brighton Women’s team for their first home game this year, against the reigning premiers Woodville. Once the Brighton and Barossa players settled down they got back into the game, and by the last 20 minutes applied some sustained pressure on the Woodville try line, scoring their first try for the season to huge celebrations. Brighton Third grade Gold kept the celebrations going with a big win against Souths to lock in second place on the ladder, and a big game next weekend for top spot at Barossa.
Brighton Reserve grade also dominated Souths for another big win and another week as undefeated ladder leaders. This finally brought us to the big game under lights as Brighton Premier grade hoped to control the game from the outset. Souths fought hard to stay in touch, and during the first half were within one try of taking the lead. Brighton then settled down, and despite a yellow card took control by half time. A pair of penalty tries did not shake Brighton’s confidence and we ran out winners 71 – 31.
Congratulations again to Geoff Aherne on his 50th game, and Lee Hunter for playing his 100th senior game.
Welcome Beyond Bank!
On Saturday we welcomed our Major Senior Sponsor Beyond Bank Australia to Brighton Oval. Their tent was set up near the canteen with a big gift basket being raffled off, and plenty of advice and giveaways during the day.
Thank you to Beyond Bank for your continuing support!

Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls
The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.
In particular we need volunteers to act as Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.
If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.
Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
