Round 2 Results

Week 2 of the new season started well, with a commanding 61 – 0 win by the Under 14s under lights on Friday in our first home game for 2025.

Saturday was hot and sunny right from the first game of the day. Brighton’s big squad of 4-7 year olds enjoyed two games, in the Get Into Rugby Walla and Tri Time groups, on the Southern half of the pitch. At the same time Brighton U8s played out a thriller against Burnside at the Northern end, with lots of big runs and tries.

Moving to full field, Brighton U10s were next up, and also had a great game, which the players advised they won!

Brighton U12s then played Burnside, and lost an exciting game 22 – 33. Our U16 team had a Bye, as they will now be combining for the season with Burnside U16, so the Under 18s were next. After a good effort last week, the U18s were in total control and ran out very convincing winners over Burnside, 66-5.

Third grade Gold struggled to control their game, and eventually had to come from behind to record a 15 – 15 draw, just holding on to stay undefeated since the 2023 Grand Final. Reserve grade then had another solid win 31 – 10, and look like they are carrying straight on from last season.

The Women’s team were improved in a 0 – 53 loss to Adelaide University, as the new players got more used to rugby and Brighton and Barossa got more used to each other. At Port Adelaide the Third Grade Black team had another good win, 40 – 24 against Southern Suburbs, and are currently top of the Third Grade ladder!

A hot day finished up with a thrilling Premier grade game against reigning premiers Burnside. After trailing 10 – 21 at half time, the Brighton team started to apply some real pressure later in the game. Still down 15 – 21 entering injury time, Ethan Daszkowski scored a breakaway try under the posts, and the conversion by Cam Field put us 22 – 21 in front. Several extra minutes added by the referee had the spectators worried, especially when Burnside were awarded a penalty in range… but a miss followed by the final whistle saw Brighton record their first win this season!

Now everyone can relax for a week and enjoy their Easter break, before Round 3 on April 26 away at Elizabeth.

Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls

The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.

In particular we need volunteers to act as Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.

If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.

Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
