Round 10 Results
Saturday was a glorious sunny day, perfect weather for a very long day of rugby as we hosted old Collegians in Round 10.
It seemed like just after dawn when we started the day with our Get into Rugby and Under 8 teams. Everyone seemed to enjoy the themselves despite the early start, and the Under 8 games was another great display of exciting running rugby! This was followed by the Under 10s, who also put on a great display for the eager crowd.
Another week, another thrilling win by the Under 12s! Brighton beat another side above them, and now find themselves fighting directly for a finals spot with a 40-33 win. The Under 14s were not as fortunate, losing 31-40 in a see-sawing game that was in the balance until the opposition finally managed to score twice in a row. Despite this the Brighton U14s are still second on the ladder.
Our Under 16s played away at Woodville against the top side, and kept themselves in the game until an early final whistle due to an injury on the pitch. Brighton have a well-earned rest next week before taking on Elizabeth in Round 12. Brighton Under 18s played out an exciting, but unfortunately narrow 33-36 loss to the reigning premiers. Despite this the U18s picked up two useful bonus points, and have three games coming up against the sides below them on the ladder.
In Seniors, the Brighton Third Grade Black team were left without a game when Elizabeth forfeited. This leaves the Black side just outside a finals spot, but with plenty of games left to try to move up into fourth spot.
The Brighton/Barossa Women’s team had a thrilling game against Onkaparinga, in their last match at Brighton Oval for the season. Once again the women turned it on in the first half for their supporters, and were right in the game. As the second half wore on the opposition made the most of their chances, but Brighton/Barossa had one of their best games, with the final score of 10-61 not reflecting the balance of play during the game.
Brighton Thirds Gold had the first of two vital games in their quest to get back to the top of the ladder, and ran out winners 39-21. This sets them up well to take on Burnside next week and make up for the draw earlier in the season.
Brighton Reserve grade once again suffered the effect of changes to the side, and did not play at their usual high level, suffering their first loss in a long time with the 14-44 defeat. Still in top spot, Brighton will be very keen to get back on track next week.
In front of a large, excited crowd Brighton Premier grade then had the job of taking on the undefeated Old Collegians. An exciting first half actually saw Brighton in front at the break, despite a barrage of penalties by Old Colls. However the second half was a different story, and Brighton were shut out while Old Colls ran in several tries. The score finished up 16-37 in favour of the opposition, and Brighton were bumped down to third spot, also giving up the Uncle George Shield. Next week’s game will be a huge one as Brighton looks to stay in the top two for a favourable finals run.
A long, exciting day of rugby did not see Brighton get all the results we wanted, but a good crowd of Past Players enjoyed catching up, and sunny weather made it a great day to be out at the rugby! Thanks everyone, and see you all at Burnside next week.

Code of Conduct
The club encourages any player, spectator or other supporter to report any issues you may encounter out at rugby.
The Rugby Australia Code of Conduct provides a set of standards for everyone involved in Rugby to ensure it is played in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. It also outlines the procedures for reporting, complaint handling and investigations of alleged breaches.
Brighton Rugby Club and all of our members and supporters have a duty to protect those involved in the game, and it is important to report someone who has acted against one or more of Rugby Australia’s policies, so appropriate action can be taken if necessary.
Please approach your coach or manager, one of our Committee members, or our Member Protection Officer Catherine Costello if you need to discuss anything that concerns you.
Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls, Canteen & Bar
The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.
In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.
If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.
Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
