ROUND 1 RESULTS
Rugby has finally returned, as we kicked off the 2026 season with a big day out at Woodville Rugby Club!
Brighton has fantastic numbers across the junior grades, and as usual the day got off to a fun start with the Get into Rugby, Under 8 and Under 10 teams playing. These sides all have new coaches for the 2026 season, but nothing has changed with the fun that the players have when they get out on the field!
Once the younger kids were done, we were treated to our first matches for premiership points, and Brighton got off to a great start! Our Under 12 side dominated the game, and finished up winning 66 – 7 to start the 2026 season on top of the ladder.
The Under 14s were next, and also looked confident in defeating Woodville 43 – 22. The Under 12s and Under 14s both have big squads full of experienced players, and will look forward to getting to grips with the other top sides as soon as they can!
The Brighton Under 16s had a tougher assignment, and ended up losing 17 – 52 to a powerful Woodville team. After a difficult year in 2025, the Under 16s have a good squad who will also challenge other clubs as they look forward to returning to finals.
The seniors teams were led off by the Women, who look rejuvenated after a busy summer recruiting new players and welcoming some faces from the past! The team took a while to settle in and start winning their share of the possession, but by half time started to show signs of playing very competitive rugby. Two spectacular tries had the crowd cheering, and the team finished the game looking like they could take on the world! A weeks rest and more new recruits arriving every week should see the Women’s team taking it right up to their next opponents in Round 2.
Brighton’s two Third Grade sides both played away from Woodville, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Brighton Blacks played Elizabeth at the Port, and a side full of new faces had a great win, 57 – 12. Then on Sunday, Thirds Gold visited Dry Creek, and put in a slightly rusty performance against an improved North Torrens side to win 44 – 14. These results see the Brighton sides start the season on top of the ladder!
Brighton Reserve Grade welcome their new coach Andy with a polished performance, rolling over Woodville 45 – 0. More new faces were mixed in with returning players in a side that looked ready to match most Premier Grade teams.
Round one then ended with Brighton Premier Grade taking on Woodville. Brighton again had a few new faces and some players fresh into senior rugby from under 18s, but were never seriously troubled in winning 40 – 3. With no tries scored against in the Premier and Reserve Grades, Brighton can go to the Easter break feeling good about their start to the season.
Congratulations to all of the Brighton teams who played on the weekend, and thank you to everyone who came out and supported our Junior and Senior teams!
Please remember there are no games this weekend, and the Clubrooms are not open on Thursday night, as most teams are not training.
See you next week, ready for Round 2!

Coming on Sunday April 12
Family Fun Day at Brighton
Families, mark the date in your calendars! We are bringing back the inflatables for another big day of family fun… Sunday April 12 from 10am. See you all there!

Brighton Carpet Bowls on Saturday back at Brighton!
Saturday night back at Brighton witnessed a new event… the first Carpet Bowls competition! A total of sixteen teams competed for the greatest prize in sports – a player’s weight in slabs of Coopers!
We started out with two rounds of preliminary games, played over five ends. Several teams went undefeated, and the 16 teams were whittled down to 8 deserving quarter finalists. The night then moved into the sudden-death phase. The quarter finals started to ramp up the excitement, and the semi-finals finally produced two undefeated teams, ready to play for the big prize.
The Grand Final featured the Bowled and the Beautiful, made up of the Brighton Women’s front row, taking on the Prolapsed Bowls, the least physically impressive team in the sport.
After 3 ends it was impossible to split the teams, so the umpires called for a sudden death bowl-off. An incredible effort by the Women to put their first bowl next to the jack then sealed the victory, and saw the Bowled and the Beautiful crowned as Brighton Carpet Bowls Champions for 2026!
