International Women’s Day 2025
International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, observed annually on March 8, celebrates women’s achievements and calls for gender equality worldwide. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” emphasises the urgency to eliminate systemic barriers and biases impeding women’s progress. Imagine a gender equal world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination – a world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive, where difference is valued and celebrated.
Together we can forge gender equality and collectively
#AccelerateAction for #IWD2025.

In 2025, Rugby Union SA is celebrating 30 year’s of Women’s rugby in SA. This milestone honours the contributions of our founding players, returning athletes and a new generation driving the game forward.
To mark this occasion, Rugby Union SA held a day of celebration, competition and reminiscing today at Old Collegians. There were a number of guests in attendance, including speakers such as: Cressida O’Hanlon, Member for Dunstan, Kristy Giteau the Female Co-President of Rugby Australia and former Wallaroo #104, Fiona Brady, judiciary chair for the Women’s RWC, Classic Wallaroo #26 Shirley Russell and SA Rugby’s own Kim Evans.
Some highlights were the launch of the new Youth Girls Program, the Ladies Crippled Crows Exhibition match, and a pre-season Women’s competition, including players from Brighton Rugby Club who combined with Barossa.
The Brighton players had an amazing day, and impressed the crowd across all three games with their form, playing like a team who have been training together for ages (without any chance to train together yet!). In three tight games, Brighton/Barossa lost narrowly in our first 2 games (both 5 – 10) and then impressed the crowd with a 15 – 5 win against Port/Collegians in the last game!
Congratulations to the Brighton players for representing the club so well on an important day for Women’s Rugby in South Australia, and to Simon Beazley, Brian Hayes, Katy McCabe and Sam Phillips for doing a fantastic job preparing the team and managing everything today. And of course thank you to the Barossa players for combining with Brighton to be part of this.
Thanks also to Rugby Union SA for organising this important event!
For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.
Play Women’s rugby at Brighton!
The Club is open!
We have a new caterer for the season, GMS Catering, and many of us have already tried Gavin and Maree’s meals. Everyone is enjoying the new menu, especially the salad bar included with all adult orders!
Please join everyone upstairs after training on Thursdays for a meal, a drink and a chat… no need to remember to take something out for tea!
The club will also be providing hot takeaway meals from the canteen on Tuesday nights after training!
