Finals Week 2 – Season 2024
Brighton had five teams in action over the weekend, with the Premier and Reserve grades playing to reach the senior grand finals, and our Under 12, Under 16 and Under 18s playing for premiership glory.
The weekend began with our Reserve grade taking on South Suburbs. A tight game in wet conditions saw Brighton eventually win 20 – 14 and move on to the Grand Final. Brighton Premier grade then played Old Collegians. Taking an early lead, Brighton were up 17 – 0, before Old Colls came back to take the lead. Despite a huge effort Brighton were unable to score late in the game, and lost 17 – 25.
Junior Grand Final day at Barossa got off to a great start, with the Brighton U12s in control the entire game, running out deserving winners 29 – 15. After a break, the U16s played Woodville, and seemed out of it at 7 – 26 down. They then made an incredible comeback, scoring several tries to finally lose by a single point, 31 – 32. The last game of the Sunday was a tough one for Brighton U18s, who tried all afternoon, but could not force their way into the game against Old Colls, losing 0 – 69.
Thanks to Barossa Rugby Club for hosting, and congratulations to all the junior players, coaches and managers, and to everyone who made the trip to Tanunda, especially those who braved the weather on Saturday!
