ROUND 3 RESULTS @ Elizabeth
Round three was the third straight away game to start the 2026 season, as most of our teams travelled up to Elizabeth, while the Premier Men had a bye. The Under 16s and Third Grade Black sides played away, taking on Southern Suburbs at Bailey, while the other Under 12s team were at Waite playing Burnside.
This week we enjoyed beautiful weather, starting with the Get into Rugby squad at 9.40am. This squad has now reached almost 30 players, ranging in age from 4 to 7. As a result Brighton can be sure to have enough players to have a great time no matter what… and they did just that on Saturday!
There was a bye for the Under 8s, so the Under 10s played next, and had a great game against Elizabeth, with plenty of exciting tries! Straight after this the Under 12s came out, looking to bounce back after a narrow loss to Old Collegians last week. They made sure of this with a good win, beating Elizabeth 43-19. Meanwhile at Waite Oval the other Under 12 side took on Burnside, and unfortunately went down 5-68. The results leave Brighton in third on the ladder, and ready to play the undefeated Onkaparinga next week.
The Brighton Under 14s came up next, and were hoping to keep up their own undefeated run to start the season. The crowd was treated to a high-scoring battle that was in doubt until the last few seconds of the game! Unfortunately Brighton were stopped on the try line in the last play, and lost a thriller 38-41.
Over at Bailey Reserve the Brighton Under 16s played against Souths. A much closer result finally ended up with Brighton losing 24-36, but gaining a bonus point. Next week Brighton will be keen to take on Onkaparinga at Brighton, and make a move up the ladder.
The Brighton Women’s team have been able to score some tries so far this season once they got settled into their games. Not this week! Brighton were on fire from the opening whistle, and eventually ran in 9 tries in a fantastic 54-14 victory, including five more tries from Millie, a double from Sarah and 6 conversions by Lauren. Saturday’s performance was the highlight of the day for the Brighton spectators!
Brighton Third Grade Black played Souths at Bailey, and came out on top by 33-26, maintaining their undefeated run. At Elizabeth, the Thirds Gold side totally dominated the opposition to score 16 tries and win 96 – 7, leaving the two Brighton sides first and second on the ladder.
In the final match of the day, Brighton Reserves also had a big win to shake off last weeks defeat and finish 74-7 winners over Elizabeth. It was a real team effort, with eleven different try scorers, and was great preparation for the Anzac Day clash with Onkaparinga at Brighton Road.
Congratulations to all of the Brighton teams, and thank you to our supporters for coming all the way out to Elizabeth. Next week we are at home playing Onkaparinga, with the Under 12 and Under 14 sides playing on Friday night under lights.
See you next week at home for Round 4!
