Senior Grand Final Results
The Senior Grand Finals for 2025 have been decided, and Brighton Third Grade have gone back-to-back with a repeat of last year’s victory, while Brighton Reserves came up short on the last day of the season.
In the early game on Saturday morning, Brighton Third Grade Gold played Burnside, the only side to have beaten them this year. The game was tight all day, with the lead changing hands several times. As the second half went on, Burnside took the lead back to go ahead 20 to 17, and things for Brighton started to look desperate with only five minutes to play. Without panicking Brighton went into attack again, but after being held out under the posts, even the bravest Brighton supporters felt like it was almost too late.
Then, with a final surge Brighton took the ball back into the Burnside 22, and a last effort saw Robbie Ferguson go over in the corner for a try, to take the lead 22-20. This was the last play of the game, and Brighton had won, to the delight of a big crowd of supporters who joined the team in a huge rendition of the club song!
After a break for the Women’s final, Brighton Reserve Grade took the field for their Grand Final against Old Collegians.
Unfortunately for Brighton, they could not produce their usual game on Grand Final day, and went down to Old Colls. Brighton were unable to get on top and Old Colls stayed in front despite Brighton’s best efforts. Brighton never gave up, and late in the game were still pressing hard. A final try to Brighton pegged the score back to 22-36, but that was how it remained. Old Collegians were the only side to have consistently troubled Brighton all season, who only lost a single game to all the other sides in Reserve grade in 2025.
After the games finished for the day, a big crowd of players and supporters came back to the club and enjoyed a great evening celebrating the season. Thank you to all of the supporters who came out to support Brighton on Grand Final Saturday, and on every other Saturday during the year. And a huge thank you also to all of the managers, coaches, support staff, volunteers, committee members and of course our own Kevin Beckett, who made it possible to get all of the Brighton junior and senior teams on the field every week!
