Round 18 Results

Another season of rugby is done, with just the finals to go. Congratulations to all of our junior and senior teams. Here is how the last match day finished up…
The early games were played in an eerie fog, making it hard to see the far side of the pitch. We had a great turnout of spectators from both clubs for the early games, and the fog seemed to help the canteen do a roaring trade all morning.

The Get into Rugby and Under 8 teams had a great time as always, and no players were lost in the fog! The Under 10s were next, and put on their usual display of thrilling running rugby. Despite no scores being recorded, the team seems to know when they win!

Brighton Under 12s tried hard, but were unable to repeat their previous win against Onkas, and so stay in fourth spot. This means they will face Onkas again next week in the semi-final on Saturday, for a grand final berth.

Brighton Under 14s were next up, and continued their great form with a decisive win over Onkas. This leaves the two sides locked in third and fourth place, and also ready to play again next Sunday at Bailey to go the grand final. Brighton will feel confident after a big win, but Onkas at home are not to be taken lightly.

Brighton Under 16s were struggling for full numbers as the reached the end of a difficult season, but fought hard in their game against an Onkas side guaranteed of fourth place and a finals spot. Despite going down on Saturday, Brighton will look forward to a big year in 2026.

Brighton Under 18s were already certain to play Onkas on Sunday next week in the semi-final, but were hoping to win and get their finals campaign off to a positive start. After an exciting game where the momentum swung back and forth, Brighton looked to be nearly home with a 37-36 lead, but a last minute try eventually saw Onkas win 37-43. Despite this Brighton will go into the semi-final ready to play for a grand final place.

Brighton Thirds Black played Burnside away, and ran up against an opponent preparing for a big semi-final next week. The Black side lost on Saturday, but narrowly missed out on a finals spot and pushed all the other Third Grade teams hard all season. The presence of a large Third Grade squad with players pushing for selection made a huge difference for the Gold side, and will continue to be vital during the finals.
The Brighton Women faced the undefeated minor premiers Southern Suburbs Women at home, and were unable to prevent Souths winning their final game. However the Brighton Women were still able to get back to the club after their game and enjoy Ladies Day. The team will be looking forward to a well-earned rest before coming back next year and going one better!
Brighton Thirds Gold had to win to stay top of the ladder, and needed a big win to stay as top-scoring senior team. They did exactly this with a 55-0 win over Onkas. This keeps Brighton ahead of Burnside, and ready for a huge semi-final next week. A sixth successive Grand Final is calling, but before then the entire Thirds squad will be getting down to some serious work.
The Brighton Reserve Grade side came out on top in a tough encounter, with Onkas throwing everything they had at us in a final push for fourth spot on the ladder. With moments left to play, Onkas had the bonus point within reach, until Brighton iced the win with a penalty goal to win 29-21. Brighton now advance to the semi-final next Saturday to play old Colls for a Grand Final berth.
Brighton Premier Grade finished up a huge day of rugby with the late game under lights. Brighton and Onkas were already set to play in the Elimination final next Sunday, and Brighton will now go in as favourites after a confidence-boosting 86-7 win. The big crowd enjoyed the result, and stayed after Ladies Day to celebrate the end of a successful season for the club.

Well done to all of the Brighton teams this season, and good luck in the next three weeks to all of the players taking part in finals!

RUSA Ladders Round 18

Ladies Day 2025

A big crowd of Brighton’s better halves enjoyed a great afternoon upstairs celebrating Ladies Day for 2025!

The day was organised by Maxine, Jaylee and Sarah, and was a great success. The ladies enjoyed drinks, food provided by Gavin in the kitchen, and some raffle prizes… and best of all they got to see some great wins by Brighton! (when they remembered to look out the windows…)

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to the bar staff who worked very hard even after ladies Day was over. Special mention to local member Sarah Andrews who came down and put in a big shift behind the bar – thanks Sarah!

Report from our Crows Box Raffle winners!

The Every family (Dave, Jacqui, Amelia and Ben from the Under 12s) were the lucky winners of the O’Neills raffle for tickets in a corporate box for ten at the Adelaide Crows vs Collingwood game at Adelaide Oval last week on Saturday night.

Jacqui reported that the family had a fantastic night with family and friends, but Ben and Amelia don’t want to go to the footy again unless it’s in a box with free food and soft drink!!

The seats were amazing and Amelia won the “Guess the Crows first goal kicker” competition and had a signed footy delivered to her at half time! To top off the night, as they left Adelaide Oval after the game, Eddie Betts walked up to the kids, put his arms around them and said, “wasn’t that a great game!”… and then just strolled off over the footbridge with the rest of the crowd! The special moment capped off a very exciting night for the whole family.

“Thanks again for the opportunity to go along to the Crows game, and thanks for all that you do to create a wonderful club”

This has been the Every’s first year at Brighton Rugby Club, and they have absolutely loved being part of it. Ben has had a great experience with his teammates, his coaches Aiden and Cheese, and of course Morag who cares for the team of boys like they are her own. Ben even scored his very first try last week against Port Adelaide!

Code of Conduct

The club encourages any player, spectator or other supporter to report any issues you may encounter out at rugby.

The Rugby Australia Code of Conduct provides a set of standards for everyone involved in Rugby to ensure it is played in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. It also outlines the procedures for reporting, complaint handling and investigations of alleged breaches.

Brighton Rugby Club and all of our members and supporters have a duty to protect those involved in the game, and it is important to report someone who has acted against one or more of Rugby Australia’s policies, so appropriate action can be taken if necessary.

Please approach your coach or manager, one of our Committee members, or our Member Protection Officer Catherine Costello if you need to discuss anything that concerns you.

How to report a concern

The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.

In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.

If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.

Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
