Round 18 vs Onkaparinga

We made it… last home game of the season, and last chance to tune up before the start of Finals for 2025!

This Saturday we have an early start to fit in a packed program of games against Onkaparinga. First up at 8.00am we have the Get into Rugby and Under 8 sides. They are followed at 8.50am by the Brighton Under 10s at 8.50am. Coffee will definitely be needed for everyone out at this time!

The Brighton Under 12s play at 9.40am and cannot drop out of the finals, but it is not yet clear who we will play in Week one. If Brighton beat Onkaparinga, then we may come up against Burnside the following week. After their last game against Onkas back in Round 9, tomorrow could be a thriller!

Brighton Under 14s are next at 10.40am. Brighton cannot avoid playing Onkas again in Week one of the finals, so tomorrow will be a great chance to prepare for going back up the hill a week later and facing Onkas at home for a place in the Grand Final.

Brighton Under 16s are playing at 11.40am, and will be hoping to round out their season with a win at home, even though they cannot make it into a Finals spot.

Brighton Under 18s start our afternoon games at 12.50pm and like the U14s will have to play Onkaparinga two weeks in a row. After some narrow results earlier in the year, the U18s will be very keen to start their campaign a week early and gain some dominance.

Brighton Thirds Black play Burnside away at 12.50pm. While they cannot make the finals themselves, the Black side have an important chance to press for selection in the Gold squad during the finals campaign, as well as making sure Burnside are not too confident when they play Brighton in Week one!

Our Women’s team face up to the minor premiers Southern Suburbs Women over at Bailey at 11.20am. Brighton have enjoyed their season, and on Saturday will be ready to give everything they have, before coming back to the club and enjoying a well-deserved chance to relax at Ladies Day!

Brighton Thirds Gold play at 2.10pm and cannot drop out of the top two, and Onkas cannot make finals… but we can expect all of the senior games on Saturday to be ferocious contests. Golds can get some valuable preparation for facing Burnside next week, the only side to defeat us this year. The winner of that game will go direct to the Grand Final, so every game is vital.

The Brighton Reserve Grade can finish the season in first place with a win at 3.30pm. However Onkaparinga will throw everything they have at this game as they risk dropping out of finals if they lose. Either way Brighton will play Old Collegians next week for a Grand Final place… but will not want to lose this week!

Finally Brighton Premier Grade play the late game at 5.00pm. Other results mean that
Brighton and Onkas will finish the minor round as they are, in third and fourth, and then will play again next week. Despite the game having no effect on finals, neither side will give an inch and we can look forward to a big game under lights to finish a great day of rugby!

Remember that Ladies Day is also on tomorrow, and you can still get a ticket to join in the fun… otherwise come down to the club for a huge day as we try to finish the season in style. Watch the rugby, enjoy a drink and stay after for a meal upstairs!

Addendum to 2024 Annual Report financials

As discussed in the passing of the BRUFC 2024 Financials at November’s AGM, an Addendum to the 2024 Annual Report Financials has been produced in an effort to better split out last year’s income streams between Bar, Canteen, Merchandise, etc.

As discussed at the AGM, the inability to attribute 2024 income to its component parts was largely due to deficiencies in correctly capturing income received through our payment system Square and allocating accordingly across to our accounting platform MYOB.

In the current 2025 year these deficiencies have been addressed with the introduction of a new accounting platform Xero, and new processes within the Club’s accounting functions. These all form part of the Club’s new five-year Strategic Plan under our Asset, Finance & Governance pillar, specifically “Creating Financial Stability & Transparency”.

A copy of the 2024 BRUFC Annual Report Addendum will be available at the bar for those interested. Any questions can be directed to the Treasurer, Robin Morgan, on 0415 652 389.

Code of Conduct

The club encourages any player, spectator or other supporter to report any issues you may encounter out at rugby.

The Rugby Australia Code of Conduct provides a set of standards for everyone involved in Rugby to ensure it is played in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. It also outlines the procedures for reporting, complaint handling and investigations of alleged breaches.

Brighton Rugby Club and all of our members and supporters have a duty to protect those involved in the game, and it is important to report someone who has acted against one or more of Rugby Australia’s policies, so appropriate action can be taken if necessary.

Please approach your coach or manager, one of our Committee members, or our Member Protection Officer Catherine Costello if you need to discuss anything that concerns you.
