Round 17 Results

Saturday was the final away game for the 2025 season, and resulted in the finals picture becoming much clearer for some of our Brighton sides. With only one game left, this is what happened in Round 17 and where it leaves Brighton’s junior and senior sides in their run to the finals.

After warming up while the Get into Rugby and Under 8 teams played first, the Brighton Under 12s had a vital game in their fight for a finals spot. If the U12s had lost, they were in danger of dropping out next week with a tough game coming against the top side Onkaparinga. Woodville pushed all the way, but Brighton came through 38-26 for their 12th win in the last 13 games, and now cannot drop out of fourth spot. This will see Brighton playing Onkas two weeks in a row… next week in Round 18, and again in the first week of finals. After their incredible 7-5 win in Round 9, Brighton might be looking forward to this!

Next up were the Brighton Under 14s. Brighton could not drop out of a finals place, but losses this week and next week could have had Brighton in 3rd and facing a rampant Onkaparinga the following week. As it is, Brighton made sure of second place with a solid 39-17 victory. However they too will have to play Onkas next week in Round 18 and then again in the first week of finals.

Brighton Under 16s unfortunately had to forfeit their game, and are out of the running for a finals place. However the U16s will want to finish their season in style at home when they take on Onkaparinga in the last home game… and may remember the 19-19 draw in Round 9 as motivation.

Brighton Under 18s started the day needing to win to stay in 3rd place and avoid playing top side Old Collegians in the finals. Brighton secured their place with a comfortable 45-17 win over Woodville. We now cannot drop out of third spot, and will also play Onkaparinga next week, and then again in week one of the finals. Brighton will be keen to reverse their two previous narrow losses to Onkas over the next two weeks…
Brighton Third Grade Black had their last game of the season at their home-away-from-home, Port Adelaide. In a great display, the Black side narrowly lost to Old Collegians by 27-29, despite scoring more tries than the opposition. The Brighton side missed out narrowly on finals, but have shown the competition how deep the talent at Brighton goes. Next week they finish their season against Burnside, and will hope to finish on a high.

Brighton Third Grade Gold travelled out to Dry Creek to play North Torrens. Although the opposition were short of numbers, after helping with some spare players, the Gold side enjoyed a good contest, winning 74-14. Gold cannot drop below second on the ladder, and will be playing Burnside in two weeks for a spot in the Grand Final for the sixth year in a row! Before then, Brighton have to survive what is sure to be a tough match against Onkas, who will not want to let Brighton off lightly.

Brighton Reserve Grade had a bye against Woodville, and as a result also cannot drop below second on the ladder. Next week Brighton has to play Onkas who will be desperate for a win to stay in the finals, so this could be a real danger game, as well as a great warm up for finals!

The day finished with Brighton Premier Grade getting the win 34-12 over Woodville, who had the chance to leapfrog Onkas into fourth spot if they had won. Brighton now cannot move out of third place, but will also face a desperate Onkas side playing for their finals spot next week.

With a long day of tough games against Onkaparinga coming up, what better event is there to take our minds off the rugby than Ladies Day? This will be the last of our home game functions for the year, so get down to the club and join the fun! We will continue after Ladies Day with a late kick off for Premier Grade, so come upstairs and cheer on Brighton from the Balcony, and enjoy a drink and a meal!

Code of Conduct

The club encourages any player, spectator or other supporter to report any issues you may encounter out at rugby.

The Rugby Australia Code of Conduct provides a set of standards for everyone involved in Rugby to ensure it is played in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. It also outlines the procedures for reporting, complaint handling and investigations of alleged breaches.

Brighton Rugby Club and all of our members and supporters have a duty to protect those involved in the game, and it is important to report someone who has acted against one or more of Rugby Australia’s policies, so appropriate action can be taken if necessary.

Please approach your coach or manager, one of our Committee members, or our Member Protection Officer Catherine Costello if you need to discuss anything that concerns you.

How to report a concern

Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls, Canteen & Bar

The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.

In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.

If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.

Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
