Round 13 Results
Saturday was a full day of rugby, spread across both pitches at Bailey, with important games for most of the Brighton sides as we start the final third of the season. Luckily for us the canteen working hard and the weather never quite deteriorated all the way.
The day started early over on Pitch 2 with both the Get into Rugby kids and the Under 8s. By the time I arrived the Under 10s were well into their usual try-fest on the main pitch, providing great entertainment for the morning supporters.
Brighton Under 12s were up next, attempting to stretch their incredible run of wins out for yet another week. Unfortunately they were finally stopped in their tracks by Souths, ending their unbeaten run at eight rounds. The side will still feel hopeful of making the final four as they now have their next four games against the bottom four sides on the ladder.
The Under 14s were dominant in their game, winning 71-7. Still in second spot, the U14s will be keen not to slip up as they look ahead to Round 18 at home, for what could be a preview of the semi-final match-up.
Brighton Under 16s played out a thriller on Pitch 1, getting some revenge for a loss to Uni-Bulls in Round 4. Brighton won 15-12 and continue to improve, and would feel that a more even draw may have had them fighting for a finals spot.
The junior sides were rounded out by the Under 18s, who had a good win against Uni-Bulls, staying in fourth position on the ladder. The U18s have the chance to move up into third due to playing Woodville twice more this season, to avoid the tougher game in the finals.
Away from Bailey, the Brighton Third Grade Black team played the Sharks at Waite Oval, and enjoyed a 64-12 win. This keeps the Black side poised in 5th place, ready to pounce on any mistakes by the top 4 sides. Meanwhile the Women’s team had a hard day at the office up at Barossa, going down to Woodville by 0-50.
At Bailey the Third Grade Gold side were determined not to give up any tries. They did exactly that, winning 36-0 despite further changes that meant another new backline combination for the week. The Gold side must already be looking ahead three weeks to the ultimate test, playing the Brighton Black side in round 16!
Brighton Reserve Grade were up against a Southern Suburbs side desperate to win, and jump into a finals spot. A very close contest finally saw Brighton come out on top with a 15-10 victory, and hold steady on the ladder for another week.
Finally the Brighton Premier Grade came out for their game, and were confident in winning 62-19, with hat tricks of tries for two players. The win keeps Brighton firmly in third place, and starting to prepare for a tough finals series in a few weeks time.
This coming Saturday is a big home game against Barossa, as well as the second test match in the Lions series. The club will be showing the Test match in the evening, so please make your way down to the club to watch your Brighton sides in action and then have a drink and a meal while the Wallabies attempt to keep the series alive!
British & Irish Lions
Second Test this Saturday
The club will be open this Saturday for the home games against Barossa, and we will be screening the second test between the British & Irish Lions and the Wallabies.

Code of Conduct
The club encourages any player, spectator or other supporter to report any issues you may encounter out at rugby.
The Rugby Australia Code of Conduct provides a set of standards for everyone involved in Rugby to ensure it is played in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. It also outlines the procedures for reporting, complaint handling and investigations of alleged breaches.
Brighton Rugby Club and all of our members and supporters have a duty to protect those involved in the game, and it is important to report someone who has acted against one or more of Rugby Australia’s policies, so appropriate action can be taken if necessary.
Please approach your coach or manager, one of our Committee members, or our Member Protection Officer Catherine Costello if you need to discuss anything that concerns you.
Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls, Canteen & Bar
The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.
In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.
If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.
Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
