Round 12 Results
Last Saturday had Elizabeth visiting Brighton for Round 12 of the 2025 season. Despite the week off for Premier Grade, there were some important matches taking place for the finals hopes of several Brighton teams.
The Get into Rugby kids had a bye, but still came out for a game amongst the squad, at the same time as the Under 8 side had their usual thrilling, high-scoring game! Straight after this the Under 10s played Elizabeth, and also enjoyed a great win.
Brighton Under 12s were next to play, this time battling to jump over Elizabeth into fourth place on the ladder, if they could manage their eighth win in a row. After a shaky start, they did exactly that, winning comfortably over Elizabeth 50-24.
The Under 14s also had a very good win, rolling over Elizabeth 62-17. The win keeps the Under 14s firmly in second spot, and looking confidently ahead to the rest of the season. After this, the Under 16s took the field and also dominated the opposition, winning 60-0 in a great performance in front of their home crowd.
The Senior sides had a quieter day than usual, with the Premier Men and Women both having a Bye. The Brighton Third Grade Black team took on Barossa at Port Adelaide, and unfortunately could not repeat last week’s great win, going down 17-47.
Back at Brighton, the Third Grade Gold side received an unexpected boost when news came through that Burnside had lost, meaning a win would put Gold back on top of the ladder. After last week’s loss the team was keen to play their best, and were clinical in winning 119-5 over Elizabeth, putting them back on top.
The Reserve Grade then finished the day off with a dominating performance, and more helpful results in other games. After winning 122-0, the Reserves finished up back on top of the ladder as well, just in time for the school holiday and British Lions break!
Saturday night after the rugby finished the club hosted the first Brighton Poker night. After starting with multiple tables, the punters were gradually whittled down until there was a final table of eight card sharks left competing for the $1000 prize money. Hand after hand the numbers were reduced until the final two were left staring across the table at each other… including our President Kevin! Unfortunately Kevin ended up losing to Arthur, and our Poker champion was crowned!
We now have a two weeks off, with the next round of matches taking place at Bailey reserve on July 19. On Wednesday night the club will be open for the State of Origin decider and the Lions vs ACT Brumbies game, and then this coming Saturday the big match between the AUNZ Invitational XV and the British & Irish Lions is on at Adelaide Oval.
We hope to see you all at the club on Wednesday, and at Adelaide Oval on Saturday!
State of Origin Decider Wednesday July 9 + British Lions vs ACT!
The club will be open this Wednesday night, July 9, to screen the State of Origin decider.
We will also have the British & Irish Lions vs ACT Brumbies game showing on the other TV, so you don’t miss a minute of the action!
The bar will be open, but the kitchen will not be open for meals, so please bring a snack or order in a meal, and join us at the club for a big night of dual-code action.
Brighton Poker Night
The first club Poker Night was a success, with more than 35 players competing for a grand prize of $1000. The event was organised to raise funds for Junior Tours, and everyone had a fantastic time.
Starting with multiple tables, the punters were gradually whittled down until there was a final table of eight card sharks left competing for the big prize money. Hand after hand the numbers were reduced until the final two were left staring across the table at each other… including our President Kevin!
In the end, Kevin eventually ended up losing the final hand to Arthur, and our Poker champion was crowned! Congratulations to everyone involved, and thanks to the Organisers… we hope to see you next year when we crown the next Brighton Poker champion!
Code of Conduct
The club encourages any player, spectator or other supporter to report any issues you may encounter out at rugby.
The Rugby Australia Code of Conduct provides a set of standards for everyone involved in Rugby to ensure it is played in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. It also outlines the procedures for reporting, complaint handling and investigations of alleged breaches.
Brighton Rugby Club and all of our members and supporters have a duty to protect those involved in the game, and it is important to report someone who has acted against one or more of Rugby Australia’s policies, so appropriate action can be taken if necessary.
Please approach your coach or manager, one of our Committee members, or our Member Protection Officer Catherine Costello if you need to discuss anything that concerns you.
Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls, Canteen & Bar
The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.
In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.
If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.
Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
