Round 11 Results
On Saturday Brighton visited Burnside for Round 11 of the 2025 season, with important games on the line for most grades.
The day started with our Get into Rugby and Under 8 teams on one pitch, and the under 10s playing on the other pitch. I was too late for these games, but was told by the Under 10s that they had a good win in their game.
Next up on the main pitch was the Under 12 side, taking on Burnside who were in second place on the ladder. And as they have been doing for the last few weeks, the U12s had an amazing win! Despite a late surge by Burnside, Brighton won 31-26, and can now jump into fourth spot with a win next week against Elizabeth.
The Under 14s were clinical in their big win, running in a dozen tries to win 65-0 and confirm themselves in second place on the ladder. After their close loss last week, the side is back on track to continue their great season.
Brighton Under 16s had a bye this week, while the Under 18s took on a Burnside team struggling for numbers. Once they were bolstered by a few Brighton players, the teams played the game out for a good win by Brighton, 41-19. The U18s are well-positioned on the ladder, with further opportunity later in the season to have another go against the top two sides.
In Seniors, the Brighton Third Grade Black team played Southern Suburbs at Bailey. The Black side started their assault on a finals place with great win, 43-14. Our other team playing away was the Brighton/Barossa Women, who travelled up to Barossa for their game against Adelaide Uni. Brighton/Barossa were able to field a squad of 20 players, but still could not break through, going down 0-46, and have a week off next week with the bye.
Back at Parkinson Oval, Brighton Thirds Gold had a chance to finally go clear on top of the ladder, after a draw against Burnside back in Round 2. Unfortunately Gold never got on top of the opposition, and until late in the game were two tries down. A thrilling comeback gave them a chance to force another draw, but the final result was a frustrating 26-28 loss. The Gold side still stay in second place, but might have to wait until finals for some revenge against Burnside.
Brighton Reserve grade also did not produce their usual high level of rugby on Saturday, and went down 21-31 against Burnside. After two losses in a row, Brighton are still well placed in second, but will be looking forward to next week to get back to their usual winning ways against Elizabeth.
Finally Brighton Premier Grade ran out for their chance to take on Burnside. Brighton started well, and at half time were well on top. Burnside gradually played themselves back into the game and as the second half went on, managed to overtake Brighton. Brighton were unable to produce a late winner, and went down 20-29. The result leaves Brighton Premier Grade still in third place, with a three week break until their next match.
We will be back at Brighton next Saturday to take on Elizabeth, and enjoy the Poker Night and the British Lions match against the NSW Waratahs. See you all there!

Code of Conduct
The club encourages any player, spectator or other supporter to report any issues you may encounter out at rugby.
The Rugby Australia Code of Conduct provides a set of standards for everyone involved in Rugby to ensure it is played in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. It also outlines the procedures for reporting, complaint handling and investigations of alleged breaches.
Brighton Rugby Club and all of our members and supporters have a duty to protect those involved in the game, and it is important to report someone who has acted against one or more of Rugby Australia’s policies, so appropriate action can be taken if necessary.
Please approach your coach or manager, one of our Committee members, or our Member Protection Officer Catherine Costello if you need to discuss anything that concerns you.
Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls, Canteen & Bar
The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.
In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.
If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.
Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
