Round 11 vs Burnside

This Saturday is Round 11, and one of the biggest away games so far this season for our junior and senior sides.

Once again the Under 12s delivered an exciting win last Saturday, and once again they face off against a top side. Another win will see the U12s a step closer to a finals spot. Brighton Under 14s are currently second, and will be keen to reset after last week and maintain their position while the sides close the them play each other.

Brighton Under 16s have a bye this week, while Brighton Under 18s start a run of three games against the bottom three sides, and will be keen to assert themselves as a finals contender with some dominant performances.

Third Grade Black are taking on Southern Suburbs at Bailey, and hope to show that they can repeat their early season form when they topped the Third Grade ladder.
Meanwhile Thirds Gold have a huge game at Burnside, in a match that may determine the eventual minor premiers. Both Burnside and Brighton are undefeated with a draw back in Round 2, so Brighton will hope to deal Burnside a defeat at home.

The Brighton/Barossa Women’s side play against Adelaide University at Barossa Rugby Precinct. The Women played very well last week, and will try to take it up to Uni and push for their first win of the season.

Brighton Reserve grade are still on top of the ladder after suffering their first loss last week, but will be working hard to avoid another defeat at Burnside. As players start to return from injury, this will be another big game!

Finally the Brighton Premier Grade take on Burnside, with the chance to step back up into second spot after last weekend’s result. With several weeks of byes coming up, Premier Grade must use this chance to prepare for the push to finals.

On Saturday night after the game the club will be open from 6.30pm for the first match of the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, against the Western Force from Perth. Come enjoy a great day of rugby at Burnside, and then join us back at the club!

British & Irish Lions on the big screen
Saturday night from 6.30pm

The club will be showing the first game of the Lions tour on the big screen tomorrow night… we are open from 6.30, so come back after the Burnside game and enjoy the start of this big year of rugby!

Sammy D
Violence Prevention Round

Stand against violence on and off the field.

Brighton Rugby Club and Rugby Union South Australia are excited to partner with the Sammy D Foundation for the Violence Prevention Round, running from 27–29 June.

This is such an important weekend on the community sport calendar, where the rugby community comes together to raise awareness, start meaningful conversations, and stand united against violence – both on and off the field.

Players will wear blue armbands in remembrance of Sam Davis… and to remind us as we play this week, and EVERY week, to say no to violence on and off the field.

Look after your mates. Be the bigger person, encourage your mates to walk away and not argue back… if we all stand up against violence, we can help make rugby a safe space for everyone in our clubs and teams, and end violence on and off the field.

Vale Maurice Treacy

The club is sorry to note that we have recently lost one of our past players, Maurice Treacy.

Maurice played juniors at Brighton, and was part of the Under 18 premiership side in 1977. He then played seniors from 1979 and again played in premiership winning teams. A strong running lock and back rower, Maurice helped Brighton win the Elizabeth 7s in 1981 and toured with Brighton to Fiji in 1982 and Japan in 1985.

Maurice will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends, and his old teammates at Brighton Rugby Club.

Code of Conduct

The club encourages any player, spectator or other supporter to report any issues you may encounter out at rugby.
The Rugby Australia Code of Conduct provides a set of standards for everyone involved in Rugby to ensure it is played in a safe, fair and inclusive environment. It also outlines the procedures for reporting, complaint handling and investigations of alleged breaches.
Brighton Rugby Club and all of our members and supporters have a duty to protect those involved in the game, and it is important to report someone who has acted against one or more of Rugby Australia’s policies, so appropriate action can be taken if necessary.

Please approach your coach or manager, one of our Committee members, or our Member Protection Officer Catherine Costello if you need to discuss anything that concerns you.
