Round 8
Brighton vs Woodville
Ted Fidock Trophy & Sponsors Day

We have reached Round 8, and it’s a big one, with Brighton Sponsors day, plus the inaugural Ted Fidock trophy round for games against Woodville Rugby Club. Once again we have games on Friday night, plus all day on Saturday.

Starting on Friday night our Under 16s and Under 18s once again play under lights. Brighton Under 16s have a tough assignment against the ladder leaders, but will be trying hard to get the weekend off to a great start. They, are followed by the under 18s, who can climb into third place with a win tonight.

Saturday starts early, with the Get into Rugby kids and the Under 8s playing at a frosty 8am! Next up are the under 10s, before we get into the games to determine the Ted Fidock trophy.

The Under 12s will hope to continue their good form and start moving into the top four with a win. The Under 14s and Woodville have identical records so far this season, so a win will provide an important break for either side.

Third grade Black are away at Tregenza playing Old Collegians, and will be trying hard to maintain two Brighton sides in the top four. Back at Brighton, Third grade Gold take on North Torrens, and should stay in touch with top spot.

The Brighton/Barossa Women have another opportunity to join in the big home match atmosphere, and hope to rise to the occasion with another exciting display against Woodville. The Brighton Reserve grade will also enjoy the big day at home as they look to finish up the first half of the draw undefeated.

Brighton Premier grade finish up a big day with the last game to determine the Ted Fidock trophy, awarded to the club winning the most games for the round. A win for Brighton will also confirm a spot in the top three for Brighton.

Please join us on Friday night and Saturday for a huge round of rugby and show your support for all our Brighton Junior and Senior teams… and help us remember Ted!!

Ted Fidock Trophy

The club is very pleased to join Woodville Rugby Club in competing for the Ted Fidock trophy for the first time.

Ted was heavily involved with both clubs throughout his life, as a player, coach, administrator and supporter. We look forward to having to having Ted’s family join us on Saturday to honour Ted’s rugby legacy with Woodville, Brighton and the wider Rugby community of South Australia.

We will also be joined by Sarah Andrews MP (State Member for Gibson), Brett Smith (RUSA Board Chair), Amanda Wilson (City of Holdfast Bay Mayor) and Paul Smith (Woodville President).

After the game, Brett Smith will present the new trophy to the winning club (across all grades), and John Fidock will present the Ted Fidock medal to the player adjudged best on ground in the Premier Grade.

Following this, the Brighton Premier grade jerseys will be auctioned.

Volunteers needed Ground Marshalls,
Canteen & Bar

The club needs volunteers to help with jobs on match days, especially home games.
In particular we need volunteers to act as Bar and canteen staff, and Ground Marshalls. One of these is required at every game, juniors and seniors. The coaches and managers are not able to fill this role as well, and are also busy organising their teams.
If you are able to assist the club by acting as a Ground Marshall, volunteering your time in the canteen or bar, or by helping with any other of many jobs on match days, please see your team’s manager or speak to one of the club committee at training during the week.

Please note that all teams will be rostered to help in the canteen for a Saturday Home game during the season. When your team is rostered, please make yourself available for a short shift in the canteen.
