Finals Week 1 – Season 2024
What a wild weekend of finals rugby! Everyone at Onkas was checking their blood pressure after some tight, emotional games and thrilling finishes.
Brighton started the weekend with all seven junior and senior sides in the finals. After a hot weekend in the sun, we already have four sides in Grand Finals, two more playing next week to reach the Grand Final, and only one side knocked out.
Saturday started well with the Third Grade defeating Burnside 34 – 17 to reach their fifth straight Grand Final.
Next up were the U14s, who struggled to dominate as they have done this season, losing 10 – 22 to Adelaide Uni. Brighton Reserve grade played next, and fought out a tight contest with Old Collegians. Despite playing well, we lost 10 – 11, but move to the Preliminary final next week. Finally our Premier grade had a huge rematch against Burnside, and also lost narrowly, 33 – 40, to join the Reserve Grade next Saturday.
Then we arrived back at Onkas for Sunday… and what a ride it was! Brighton U12s started the day, and were hardly in the game up to half-time, trailing 5 – 22. Then came the most amazing comeback in years, with Brighton finally winning 33 – 29 with a dominant second half.
This obviously inspired the U16s, who also started slowly, but then came from 0 – 17 down to take the lead with a few minutes to play, then go behind again, and finally score late to win a thrilling game 28 – 24!
This just left the U18s to cap off an amazing day for our Juniors, and they celebrated in style, absolutely dominating Onkas to run out winners 46 – 17! Congratulations to all our Junior teams’ players and coaches
These results see three of our Junior sides playing next Sunday in their Grand Finals, Reserves and Premiers playing next Saturday to reach the Grand Finals, and Third Grade having a week to rest before their GF. See you all at Barossa next weekend!

Now that the season is over, we have the important business of recognising our players for their hard work this season. Please join us at Patritti Wines for our senior presentations on August 31, and at the club on September 8 for our Juniors.
RUSA Awards Night 2024
This Wednesday night is the annual RUSA awards night, where the winners of the Men’s, Women’s and Under 18 Best and fairest players will be announced. We are proud to announce Brighton nominees Aidan Flynn and Lee Hunter for the men’s Don Smith medal, and Liam Ramsay for the Under 18 award.
